The islands of the Ionian sea stretch along the western coast of the central part of the Greek mainland and further to the south along the western coast of the Peloponnese. They constitute an independent group of twelve small and large islands with their own special character.
The Ionian islands in fact consist of tow separate, individual groups of islands, each with its own character. The northern group is dominated by Corfu with the Diapontia islands (Othoni – Erikousa – Mathraki – Diapolo and other smaller islands) to the north-west , and Paxos and Antipaxos , with their own constellation of smaller islands, to the south east.
The more densely clustered central group consists of Lefkada, separated from the mainland by a channel of water, and the islands around it: Skorpios – Kalamos – Skorpidi – Madouri – Meganisi – Sparti – Heloni – Kefalonia – Zakynthos and the celebrated Ithaca.
Corfu, Greece, also known as the island of miracles and forests, is one of the most popular and best known of the Ionian islands. Corfu is a green island covered with olive groves, cypress and lemon. In addition, sun, sand, blue sea are compelling reasons for which tens of thousands of tourists from around the world come back here every year.

North-east coast is higher, the rocks surrounding the beach, with numerous bays and traditional fishing villages, offering long beaches north and south, covered with sand.
Corfu is the second largest island group known as "Seven Islands" or Eptanisa, with an area of 589 km2 and a coastline of 217 km long.
Otranto is situated in Bay Island, near the border with Albania. Corfu is the island of miracles and wonders, where every time scene changes without affecting the harmony in the region. The greenest island of the Greek islands, Corfu, has three million olive trees. Also, the carpet of flowers in the places of the island and Adriatic-style villages, it has splendid coastal scenery and some excellent beaches separated.

If your travel plans are for March, you should know that on March 25 the city celebrates Independence Day with military parades and other ceremonies on May 1 is the day that people go to picnic and then collection of tiaras Palm to achieve that hang on the front door of the house, May 21 is the Day of Unification of the Ionian Islands.
